Past “RN to BSN/MSN Challenge” Scholarship Recipients

2020 Recipient – Aaron Corral

Current MSN student at The University of Texas at Tyler

My journey in healthcare began when I enlisted in the Army as a Combat Medic at the age of seventeen. In the last seven years, I have worked as an EMT, a pharmacy technician, and a critical care nurse. Before COVID-19 my dream was to become a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner. While working in the COVID ICU, I realized that our leaders in administrative roles were able to make changes that best supported the nurses on the unit. In order to best support those at the bedside, I have shifted my goals and am currently working on obtaining an MSN in Healthcare Administration and an MBA in Cyber Security. After graduation, I anticipate working as part of unit management and ultimately would like to serve as a Chief Nursing Officer.

2019 Recipient – Aretha DiSalvo

Current RN to MSN Student at Thomas Edison State University
As I began my college education journey, I struggled with finding the appropriate career path. Nursing was not the obvious choice for me, but I happened upon it at the advice of a friend. Although the course work was challenging, I found it entirely rewarding and immediately knew I made the right decision. I completed my undergraduate work at William Paterson University and have had a very fulfilling and diverse career within the oncology specialty. The decision to pursue my advanced degree was out of the desire to affect the nursing specialty in a constructive and effective manner. With the demand to marry healthcare and technology, it became evident to me that nurses can play a vital role in ensuring that safety, integrity and functionality are preserved throughout the process. I hope to achieve my MSN, with a focus in Nursing Informatics, through the program at Thomas Edison State University. The generous scholarship awarded from RegisteredNursing.org will help to lessen the financial burden and allow me to focus on my class work. Thank you for this opportunity to grow my nursing career.

2018 Recipient – Shadé Darnell

Current BSN Student With Mt. St. Mary’s University
My name is Shadé Darnell, I am a new grad RN and I work at a correctional facility. I am currently pursuing my BSN through Mt. St. Mary’s University. I have always wanted to be in the medical field, but I decided on nursing after attending Career Day in high school. I am so grateful to RegisteredNursing.org for this wonderful opportunity, as this scholarship will lessen the burden of tuition. After my BSN I hope to pursue my master’s degree in the hopes of becoming a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
